RENUVION: PLASMA ENERGY SURGICAL SKIN TIGHTENING

Renuvion is a recent and sophisticated technique of surgical skin tightening that uses plasma energy to tighten loose skin. Plasma energy is produced by combining radio frequency (RF) energy with helium gas. The unique feature of plasma energy is that the skin tightening is produced at a relatively low temperature compared to RF energy. This increases safety and greatly minimizes the risk of skin burns.

Renuvion is usually performed together with Vaser liposuction on body parts that have both excess fat and significant skin laxity so that a greater degree of skin tightening can be achieved compared to Vaser liposuction alone (see tab on VASERlipo).

Common areas that tend to develop both excess fat and significant skin laxity are the double chin area, the arms, front and back bra fat zones, the abdomen, waist, love handles and inner thighs.

Renuvion and Vaser liposuction performed together can produce a powerful body contouring and skin tightening effect. When used to treat the entire trunk (abdomen, waist, lower back and hips), a significant “shrink wrapping” effect results, producing dramatic slimming and contouring effects on the torso. It is also possible to use this combination for patients who are borderline candidates for a tummy tuck due to post-pregnancy abdominal skin laxity. Such patients can often avoid undergoing a tummy tuck and the long scar associated with this procedure, while achieving equally good results.

In addition, high definition contouring is possible when Renuvion is used in conjunction with Vaser liposuction, so that tube packs can be created in females and six packs in males.

Dr Huang has more than twenty years of experience with liposuction and four years of experience with RFAL, so you can rest assured that you will be in the hands of an experienced user of this technique.

A few small incisions (less than one cm each) are made in strategic locations to minimize visibility of the scars.

The wounds are closed with fine sutures at the end of the opreation. The length of the procedure depends on how many areas are operated on and the surgical work removed. It ranges from one hour to several hours. Small areas can be carried out under local anesthesia or intravenous sedation, whereas large and multiple areas are usually addressed under general anesthesia. It is completed as a day surgery procedure.
